Al Fakher - the staple of hookah smokers everywhere. It's a brand that everyone knows, and pretty much everyone has smoked at some point in time or another. Al Fakher is one of the oldest and more traditional hookah brands around, but it has lasted so long for good reason: they have strong flavors, and a wide variety of flavors to choose from. Some, myself included, would even argue that they have too many flavors to from, some being wholly unnecessary. That said, AF is still a great brand for new smokers and the veterans alike. But for the newer smokers, where do you begin with Al Fakher? There's so much to choose from, and it's practically just as easy to pick up a bad flavor as it is to pick up a good one. That's where we come in. Today, we're going to be covering the top five Al Fakher flavors of all time - what you should try, what to expect, and where you should begin your journey. These flavors transcend just new smokers though - they're really open to anyone, and even if you've been smoking for years, if you haven't tried these flavors yet, I highly advise checking them out for yourself.
#5 - Blueberry
Blueberries are one of the most unanimously loved fruits of all time. Don't trust someone if they don't at least like blueberries, and when it comes to smoking blueberries, it's pretty much the same boat. Blueberry flavors can go two ways: natural, or candied. Neither one is better than the other, they're all just based on preference (like all things in hookah). AF takes blueberry in a more natural route than most brands would, opting to focus more emphasis on the tartness of the blueberry than any other blueberry on the market. What I think makes this flavor truly shine is how balanced it is. While the tartness may be in the forefront of the flavor, it's also heavily balanced with the sweetness, making for a flavor that is pretty accurate to the actual blueberry profile. Blueberry is such a well-loved flavor that AF Blueberry is great for a crowd pleasing flavor, or introducing someone to hookah with this flavor.
#4 - Grapefruit
Grapefruit is a very polarizing flavor, it seems to very much be either you love it or you hate it. But regardless of how you feel towards it, I think that it's important to acknowledge the flavor for what it is. Prior to Ugly's Grapefruit flavor coming out a few years ago, there weren't a ton of great options for Grapefruit flavors, as Grapefruit is a very odd thing in and of itself - how many super tart flavors are on the market? Not only that, but how many do well? AF Grapefruit does it, and does it well, with heavy emphasis on the tartness of the flavor, the way that Grapefruit should be. As with a lot of AF's flavors, they offer it in a "with mint" variety, which, while certainly good, I've found that buying separate tubs of AF Mint and AF Grapefruit and mixing them on your own gives you a little bit more control over the bowl you're packing, and you can tweak it as you like. This goes for pretty much all "with mint" flavors as well.
#3 - Orange
Orange is a pretty universally loved thing. I can't think of a single person in my life that has ever said they don't like oranges. They're simple, but just so good. So naturally, finding a great orange flavor is something highly important to a hookah smoker. Enter AF Orange - the classic orange flavor. This is the orange flavor that really got me hooked onto citrus flavors, an obsession that has only spiraled out of control since then, and if you've ever tried AF Orange, it's plain to see why. AF Orange is just so simple, and yet so good - just like how the fruit should be. They nail the citrus bite to the flavor, but complement it with a more subtle sweetness than you would find in a natural orange. This flavor may not be the most accurate orange flavor around, but it's definitely one of the better ones, and it's one that I think everyone should try. It should be noted that AF also makes an Orange with mint flavor, but I do think that it's better to buy AF Orange and AF Mint separately and mix them yourself, just like with grapefruit mint.
#2 - Mint
In a world of super mints like Twice the Ice Extreme, FML, and Uber Mint, it's easy to forget the roots of mint flavors in general. AF is, for so many people (myself included), what started the mint craze. Adding that fresh pinch of cooling to your bowl was (and still is) a great thing, and it all started with AF Mint for most people. While better mints have since came out, I've since revisited AF Mint, and it's still a great way to get a little freshness into your bowl without icing out your lungs. It's not a flavor for everyone by any means, but I think that having some AF Mint around, if only to mix, is always a good thing.
#1 - Double Apple
I'm sure some people are going to disagree with this, but there's no question here. Al Fakher Double Apple (DA for short) is the best selling flavor of all time - and for good reason. DA, if you're unfamiliar, is not an apple flavor by any means. Do not buy this under the impression that you're going to be getting an apple flavor. Rather, DA is a heavy licorice flavor. It's one of the strongest flavors on the market, and it's because of this, on top of its astronomical popularity in the middle east, that it has made the top of this list. DA is strongly something that I think everyone should try at least once, because as the most popular flavor of all time, it's a flavor that almost just seems tradition to try. It's very much an acquired taste, I think, but trying it won't kill you by any means.
Al Fakher is a great brand - it's not going anywhere any time soon. It's the working man's tobacco - it might not have the nicotine punch of Tangiers, or the flavor complexity of Trifecta, but that doesn't make it an inferior tobacco by any means. It's the perfect brand to learn how to pack, and master the basics of hookah, as well as a brand that experienced smokers will love as well. It's an all around great brand, and one that everyone should absolutely try. But what do you think? What are your favorite Al Fakher flavors? Do you think it's a good brand? Let me know in those comments down below! As always guys, thank you so much for reading, and happy smokes!
