The Buzz Scale

The Buzz Scale

Buzz is something that's always talked about in hookah, and it's something that many people smoke for. Some people just crave that heady buzz, and really like being able to tell that they're smoking. As someone who reviews, I'll often times find myself referencing other brands in terms of buzz. So, today I thought it would be an apt time to make my Buzz Scale - or where I find most modern brands in terms of buzz, in correlation to other brands. Buzz is, by no means, a true definer of whether or not a brand is great or not, and this shouldn't be taken as me disparaging these brands by any means.

1. Social Smoke - No buzz here. Arguably the weakest brand on the market, not that that's necessarily a bad thing. Many people don't care for buzz at all.

2. Starbuzz (Normal and Bold Lines) - Some buzz can be attained, but not really.

3. Haze Tobacco - Baby's first buzz. It can happen, but it's weak.

4. Pure Tobacco - I can get a buzz from this sometimes, but I have to be super dehydrated or something.

5. Fumari - Again, there's so much glycerin here that you're unlikely to get a crazy buzz. You can get some minor buzz, but nothing to write home about.

6. Alchemist (Regular and Stout) - Again, some buzz, but nothing crazy.

7. Al Fakher - Al Fakher is a rare case, where instead of keeping you buzzed, it instead gives you a pretty strong buzz for the first twenty minutes, then quickly dies off. There's been some evidence of a quicker nicotine delivery system, but I'm not going to get into any semantics of any of that nonsense today. Just know that it'll buzz you, then not buzz you.

8. Lavoo (Regular) - This is where the buzz starts. Nothing super strong by any means, but it's noticeable. You'll know you're smoking, without a doubt.

9. Trifecta (Blonde Line) - This is the middle of the road IMO. Nothing that's going to knock you on your ass, but it's there, and you'll know it's there. Usually, even experienced smokers can tell.

10. Trifecta (Dark) - Just a pinch stronger than the blonde line.

11. Starbuzz (Vintage) - Vintage definitely packs a pretty big buzz, and even though it's super saturated with glycerin, it still has a pretty hefty throat hit as well. Not a crazy impressive brand IMO, but it'll buzz you for sure.

12. Ugly - This is where the ass punching can start. This is where, if you aren't ready, you'll want to make sure you're properly hydrated.

13. Nakhla - Nakhla, if packed correctly, can give a pretty potent buzz. There have been many a time where a properly packed bowl of DA can put me on my ass, but I think that's part of the charm with Nak. Don't Nak it till you try it.

14. Nirvana - Nirvana seems to not be super consistent anymore with their buzz, but it's one of the stronger brands on the market for sure. I'd put it in the same bracket as Nakhla and Ugly, though maybe just a pinch stronger.

15. Tangiers Birquq - In a similar category as Nirvana, Birquq is the brand I recommend to smokers wanting to get into smoking Tangiers, as it's easier to pack, not as heat sensitive, and doesn't pack the killer buzz that Tangiers is known for. That said, it's still a pretty hefty buzz, and it'll knock a beginner down a peg without a doubt.

 16. Tangiers Noir - The "gold standard" for Tangiers, and what they're known for - that ass punching buzz that can buzz even the most experienced smoker. Not for the faint of heart, but definitely for the masochist smokers out there.

 17. Lavoo (Heritage) - Lavoo Heritage is the first brand to even come close to Tangiers in terms of buzz. This stuff is serious, and can lay it down better than most brands around. That said, it's accompanied by a crazy throat hit that'll make you regret everything and say, "damn, maybe mom was right about that hookah shit."

 18. Tangiers (Burley) - This is still the king. Burley, while not terribly far off from Noir, is the strongest modern tobaccos on the market, and for good reason. Without the throat hit of the Lavoo Heritage, but all of the buzz (plus some), it's going to be the go-to buy for a smoker craving a buzz.

 Overall?

What do you think? Do you agree with my list? What do you think the strongest modern tobacco is on the market? What's your favorite? Where do you like your buzz? Are you in the Salty Spitoon? Or are you Weenie Hut Jr.? Let me know in the comments below! As always guys, thank you so much for reading, and happy smokes!
