HookahJohn Bowls - The Top Three

HookahJohn is a big name in hookah - and for good reason. As well as being one of the largest online hookah vendors, John also makes his own hookah products - the most popular of which are his bowls. John didn't create the funnel bowl - that was Tangiers. However, he did change it a bit, and largely help in making them popular. John has made a lot of different bowls, and a lot of different variation of those bowls over the last almost eight years. Today, we're going to be taking a look at our favorite HookahJohn bowls over the years, and telling you why we like them or what they're good for. Without further ado, lets jump into it!

#3 - The Retro Harmony Bowl

The original Harmony bowl is where it all started for John. If you were around in mid 2016, you remember how sought after the "V1" Harmony was (and still is, in some cases). At the time, it was the second funnel bowl to come out, following the Tangiers bowl. The older Harmony bowls didn't hold a ton of tobacco, but they weren't shisha savers by any means, as they had a wider diameter. The diameter of the Harmony bowl incidentally set the standard diameter for bowls later down the line, as the Kaloud Lotus was made for a perfect fit for the Harmony bowl (whether intentionally or not).  As time went on, the Harmony bowls started to become deeper and deeper, eventually to the point where people stopped praising them and started asking for change. John listened, and the change came - the Retro Harmony bowl came to market in February of last year. The Retro Harmony tried to recapture that original Harmony design, by making the bowl shallower, while still maintaining that now crucial diameter. The bowl was a success, and it got me using a Harmony bowl again! The Harmony bowl is great for fluff pack sessions, with things like Ugly, or Al Fakher, as it gives you plenty of room to work with when packing.

#2 - The Alien Flashback

The Alien bowl - a bowl that is arguably John's most popular bowl among enthusiast circles. The Alien bowl is also the bowl that has seen the most "versions", or the most variations with time over the years. The original Alien was a wonderful bowl that was super shallow, with a wide spire, and a relatively wider diameter (compared to the 80ft bowl). Over time, the bowl became steeper, and narrower over time, making the overall design less efficient as time went on. People always sought after the earlier versions of the Alien bowls, and so John took matters into his own hands - he made the Alien Flashback, the first "re-do" of his bowls, in late 2016. If you haven't heard me talk about the Flashback yet, it's one of my absolute favorite bowls around, and it's even made my top three workhorse bowls list. The reason for this is simple - it captures everything that an efficient bowl should have. It's shallow, with a wide spire, making it great for dark leaf tobacco's, like Tangiers. The design was essentially fixed so that it was a relatively flat bottom of the bowl, so that your tobacco would cook evenly throughout the session. It's a wonderful bowl, and it's something that I'll continue to recommend so long as it exists!

#1 - The 80ft80 Bowl

The 80ft bowl originally came out as an answer to the Harmony bowl holding too much tobacco. It was a great bowl for it's time, but then HookahJohn took it to the next level with the 80ft80 - one of my favorite bowls of all time, and certainly the best HJ bowl thus far. The 80ft80 features a wide spire, and low capacity, making it great for Tangiers sessions, or any kind of dark leaf. It's a true shisha saver, with wonderful airflow to boot. It has just about everything that you can ask for of a hookah bowl, and this one was no contest. The 80ft80 is one of the best bowls around, and if you haven't picked one up for yourself, I can't recommend it highly enough.

Overall?

What do you think? Did you favorite HJ bowl make the list? Have you tried any of these? Which do you like? Do you think they could be improved on at all? Let us know in the comments below! HJ bowls have been around for a while, and I don't see them going anywhere in the near future. I hope that we can continue to see HJ making bowls that function well, and stay pretty cost effective at the same time. HookahJohn makes the best workhorse bowls around, and that isn't likely to change any time soon. As always, thank you guys so much for reading, and happy smokes!
